SPEAKER_01

Hello, and I'm your host, Dr. Valda Crowder, also known as Dr. V. I've been a board-certified emergency room physician now for several decades, and I am committed to empowering you with life-saving health information. In addition to the Ask Dr. V radio show, I also have a podcast called What the Health Is Happening. So take a look at it. It's uh in all of all of the streaming platforms, Audible, Spotify, Apple. You can find it everywhere. Um, and it has a lot of the episodes here if you've missed any of the content that I've been providing over the last couple of years. So make sure to actually uh take a look at it, comment, follow, etc. Today we are going to give you the 411 on GLP1s. Now, a lot of people have tried everything to lose weight, and they've tried a lot of different ways, but it seems like they've they're having difficulty for one reason or another. And there's some people who've tried some of the new medications and then they can't get off the medications, or they've had side effects, or they've gained the weight back. So today we're gonna talk about you know what is all of the science behind of this, and also talk about a new option. So today we're gonna talk about weight management, not from a shame-based or diet culture perspective, but more through the lens of science. Um, and we're gonna also talk about how you can actually become empowered in this environment. So there's a lot to talk about with GLP1s, but let's just start first with what is the G, what is the L, and what is the P. So G stands for glucagon, L stands for like, and P stands for peptide. And what a lot of people don't realize is GLP1s are naturally produced in your body. So when you see some of these medications, um these medications are looking at giving you additional uh GLP, GLP1s. And you know, some people have had very good uh results with weight loss. Um, some people have lost weight and then gained the weight back when they got off the medication because either their insurance no longer covered it. Um we've also seen downsides, like people talk about the Ozempic face. There's a lot of people who are talking about the photo of Oprah as she was going through the airport or wherever she was going through. Um then there's also the compounded medications. The compounded medications are like him, him and hers, row.com. Um, there's been a lot of threats uh with our current administration to take these off the market, and I have to say uh rightfully so. I know myself personally, I dealt with a patient that um had a um a code and an arrest as it relates to these compounded medications. Um last week in the Washington Post, uh there is an article where a woman talks about her weight loss journey and the compounded medications led to her having fulminant liver failure and having to um get a liver transplant. So, what a lot of people don't realize is there is a natural cost-effective way to actually enhance GLP in in your in your body. And I'm gonna I'm gonna talk about that and give you some of my expert information that you may not have heard about. I also today have a special guest who has tried this product with results. I will interview her and you will hear her testimony. So let's first talk about GLP1s. So told you it's glucagon-like peptide, it's an incritin hormone, which means that it is secreted by your gut. And basically what it does is it helps you to regulate blood sugar and it also helps to regulate your appetite. So these GLP1s, as I said, they're naturally produced in your body. They're produced in the L cells in your small intestines. They're also produced in your pancreas, they're also produced in your brain stem. What is interesting about that is we are seeing research now where they're actually looking into what effect does GLP1s have on addiction, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, et cetera. So these are actually released. Uh GLP1 is released when you are eating. It is particularly released if you eat carbs or fats. So it is in response to nutrients coming into your gut. In your body, the naturally produced GLP1s then actually connect with a receptor, and then the activation begins. So again, this activation will reduce your appetite, it slows your stomach emptying, it helps control your blood sugar by increasing the amount of insulin that's being produced by your pancreas and decreasing the amount of glucagon produced by your pancreas, it helps reduce fatty liver, and it overall helps with glucose control. So, altogether, what happens is you eat less without necessarily feeling deprived, and that actually leads to weight loss. Some people naturally produce more GLP1s than others. You know, people who have been naturally thin all their entire lives, or they may have more or less receptors than others, and there's some people that have been natural have been naturally obese all their life. In general, we as Americans have a higher rate of obesity, and because of that, we also have a higher rate of the health consequences of obesity. So diabetes, heart disease, strokes, joint damage, sleep apnea, they're all causing extreme devastation. So you've heard of many of these GLP ones and you've seen some of the commercials for them. They go by the names of like Ozempic, ZEP bound, Wagovi. These are all pharmaceutical medications that are very expensive. They're usually anywhere from$900 to$1,500 a month, and you have to go to your physician and get a prescription for these medications and then be monitored. And a lot of it will depend upon what is your hemoglobin A1C, are you pre-diabetic? Are you diabetic type 2? And a lot of analysis like that. Then we're seeing these compounded medications. So these are the medications that you're seeing on TV where it's roe.com or him, him and hers. And as I said, these medications are compounded, so they are made by a pharmacist and there is less control. They're not made in a manufacturing plant with very, very strict quality controls. So we're seeing some very um severe consequences to these compounded medications. And they are, as I said, talking about right now, taking them actually off the market. And I would not be surprised if that does not happen very soon. Because a lot of people kind of go to these medications because they're cheaper, they're usually$149 or$200 a month or so. But again, they have a really bad side effect profile or can have a bad side effect profile. So today I'm going to talk about a natural supplement that actually increases GLP production in your own body. The name of it is called Calicurb. And I actually was introduced to Calicurb last year, and I've done some research and looked at their research. It was actually researched prior to Manjaro, Ozempic, Zeppbound, Wagovi. So it actually has a longer history of scientific study. As I said, it was derived from a flower extract. And what happens is this flower is in New Zealand and it is the most bitter flower in the world. So bitterness actually makes your body help produce its own GLP1 and it helps to reduce appetite and caloric intake. So calic herb, the name of the actual flower is humulus lupulus flour extract, and it basically activates these bitter taste receptors in your gut. It triggers not only the release of GLP1, but also other things that actually help with digestion. And it helps to actually suppress some of the appetite hormones. So in some of these studies, here's what happened: Callo curb reduced calorie intake by 20% when compared to placebo. It was found not to be a stimulant, and it was also found not to be addictive, and it was also noted to be uh vegan for those people that are vegan or vegetarian. It takes about 30 minutes to actually work. Um people actually take the pill about an hour to two hours before their two largest meals of the day. I tell people all the time, um, if you actually don't get it in before your two largest meals of the day, just take the tablets as instructed and get them in. Um and what they found was there was a 30% reduction in hunger, there was a 40% reduction in cravings, and there was 18% fewer calories consumed in within an hour. I've had several of several people that I know that have been on it that have also said they have felt calmer or they've slept better. So when you actually look at like comparing like a GLP injectable medication that might be$900 to$1,300 a month without insurance with something like CalloCurb, and CalloCurb is$89.99, so it's basically$90. The$90 gives you 90 pills, which probably lasts for almost a month, about 20-25 days or so. A lot of people want to actually hear about this natural GLP activating supplement. So, like I said, I interviewed somebody who is on it, and I'm going to share with you the interview. All right, are you tired of fighting cravings and feeling like your appetite is in control of you? It's time to flip the script naturally. Introducing Calicurb, the 100% plant-based solution to smarter weight management that doesn't require a prescription. All right, guys, I am really excited to share with you my patient, Renee, that I had a chance to actually interview. Up next is going to be her recording. Renee is my patient. She's been on this for two months, Renee? Seven weeks. She's been on this for seven weeks. So I'm just gonna interview her shortly so that you guys will actually hear what her experience has been on it. So, Renee, tell me a little bit about your weight loss journey.

SPEAKER_00

Uh my journey has been that uh as a child I was chubby back in the day. They used to call it chubby. And uh, though I was always active, and so it's always been something that has been of concern for me. I was an athlete and I was doing quite well. Last year I had foot repair, uh five surgeries, and so I couldn't do any more walking, I couldn't go to the pool, I couldn't go cycling, those were the things I had done on a regular basis. I put on probably about 35 pounds just from lack of activity. I've always had a pretty decent diet because I have food allergies, so I don't eat a lot of junk. However, as my nephew would say, the whole family has a potato chip addiction. I would eat potato chips, uh, my bad foods were French fries and lots of fruit because I didn't want to get sugar because I don't do gluten, so I couldn't eat all the baked stuff. And I could not lose any weight. I then started um I've done uh the Atkins diet, I've done, remember back Jane Fonda? For those people who are old enough, right? All of those things. Um and my weight would either go down for a little bit when I was very, very active, and then it would go up, but up more and more.

SPEAKER_01

So you started Calicurb seven weeks ago. Seven weeks ago. What was the first thing you noticed when you got on it?

SPEAKER_00

First, I was like, okay, wait, this I got to get now on a regular eating habit. That was number one, because you have to take it an hour to two hours before eating. It's preferable. You get the best results if you take it that way. And I would kind of go like all day, that kind of thing, work all day, and then at like eight, nine at night realize I was starving. And then it'd be kind of like throw whatever in my mouth that was easy to eat and quick and fast. So, number one, I had to just get myself on a better eating schedule. So that alone, I believe, helped to make a difference right there because I wasn't kind of doing that starving by day and then eating before going to bed. Once I got myself organized so that I could actually have meals on a regular basis, part of that was I put myself on a time and when I would take the GLP. So it caused me to have to rethink my own habits and it gave me a little bit more discipline. I originally really didn't I didn't feel that much, but what I started to feel probably after the third or fourth day was I felt myself detoxing. And um, even like the swelling in my hands I noticed was gone. Um, some of the puffiness in my neck around my thyroid was gone. Um, but I hadn't lost any weight, you know. And I at first I was like, I don't know, I'm afraid to wave myself because I was like, oh, I don't know about all of this. But then by the second week, when I was doing kind of got more consistent and got in the habit, I noticed I started like my pants felt like it's like, oh, I was like, did they stretch or did I shrink? Um, I shrunk. I was thankful. Um I noticed I did not have any of the nausea that people, friends of mine who've taken the injectables. I didn't have any nausea, I didn't have any vomiting, I didn't have any diarrhea. I actually had a better digestive system, to be honest with you, uh the way you're supposed to, biologically, right? You eat, you let go, you eat, let go. That's how babies are, right? That's the way our systems are supposed to operate. That also, in addition, because now I was feeling I started to just feel better, my sleep improved. I was like very surprised, my sleep improved dramatically, which meant I wasn't as cranky. My clarity, mental clarity, I could focus a lot more. So when I got to start doing work, I could kind of stay focused for that time. And then I had set my watch because it's time to take the take my callow curve. Over the last seven weeks, I've lost 8.1 pounds.

SPEAKER_01

And wait, wait, wait, let me ask you this how much exercise have have you still, because of your surgery, not done that much exercise?

SPEAKER_00

I haven't still been able to do that much exercise at all. I mean, I do physical therapy twice a week, but it's not any kind of cardio or anything.

SPEAKER_01

Now, previously in your life, have you ever been able to lose weight without doing exercise?

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no, no, no, no. No exercise, gain weight. Right. That was the my formula. That was basically for me. The other piece I noticed on this was that my joints, all my doctors have said, you know, part of your joint pain and for folks with arthritis and anybody have knee pain? Okay, so here this is one of the important pieces, even though I knew it intellectually, it didn't make it, I didn't notice it until I actually started to take the callocarb. For every pound loss, you take three to four pounds of pressure off of your knees. My knees have improved. I'm off of the maloxicam, which is a medication uh non-steroidal and ensexual. And anti-inflammatory. The swelling in my ankle from the surgery has been reduced dramatically to the point that my physician yesterday, when I saw her, she says, Your foot looks excellent. So a lot of that kind of puffiness, kind of fluid buildup that you have gone. And because the swelling and the weight has gone down, um, I now have been cleared as of the yesterday, I've been cleared to walk up to a half a mile a day for the first week, a mile, and then to increase back up to five or six miles per day.

SPEAKER_01

Now I got a question. When you were on a call curve, you're still on it now.

SPEAKER_00

I'm on now. I took it two hours before we came here.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, alrighty. So quick question, did you ever cheat or go off or like what is your because I know some people, you know, they actually like they have a bad day with potato chips and french fries and and wine or whatever it may happen to be, and then they gain the weight back. Did you find that there was any did you go off and have it eating? Oh, yeah. You checked, you cheated, and you still lost the eight pounds.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I cheat. Um, you know, I I for me a cheat is like eating. I love fruit. And fruit is sugar, right? It's healthy, so I'm trying to think, well, it's a health food. Well, it is if you only eat, you know, a portion. Today I cheated. You know, that little crumb cake that was. The little dessert, the bread pudding thing. Yes. I see a lot of people smiling, okay? Yes. It looked like the kind my mother made, so I was like, oh mommy. So I had I don't, but I didn't eat, I ate two forkfuls, and I was like, you know what? I really don't want this. Right. Right. Um, so it really it's just kind of changed my A, I have much better habits, B, I'm sleeping better, C, my team works better with me. D, I'm healing um physically. So it's for me, it the weight was there and it was about some of my self-esteem. It's kind of like this midriff. I mean, when when my interventional cardiologist said that this is not a love handle, this thing right here, right? It's heart attack fat. I've been it, I've been, I have noticed that that has been like the first thing to go, along with the kind of the puffiness. Um walking. Did you see me walk up these steps? Yes. Did y'all see me want me? I can go when I go down, watch me walk. That to me is that to me, if nothing else, is the ability to have mobility again, to have less pain. And it was and you know, I'll say the hardest thing was me getting into a habit of eating, you know, two full meals a day has been a game changer.

SPEAKER_01

So, one other quick question. You have a scale. So, one of the things we recommend is people have a scale that measures percent body fat as well as muscle. So you have a scale that measures your muscle mass.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

So you've lost eight pounds. Have you lost any muscle?

SPEAKER_00

No, I lost no, I have not, according to my critical.

SPEAKER_01

You want to actually lose fat. You do not want to actually lose muscle. And the calicurb costs you how much?

SPEAKER_00

Um$89 because I had to pay for shipping.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah,$89.99. So I just wanted to just I wanted to talk to people about this because this is not a major pharmaceutical company that's behind this, you're not gonna hear about it. It's more of a it's more of a natural or an herbal medication, but it is really something that is a game changer for people that can't come off the GLP ones, people that don't want to get on the injections, people that actually I got off and then I gained the m weight back, or there's people who are on GLP ones, they get down to their target weight, and then their insurance no longer pays for their GLP ones. Right? So there's all sorts of things like that that actually make a difference. QR code, there's a 10% discount already loaded, so there's free shipping, so it really doesn't matter if you get it here or if you get it there. Um but if you're interested in really trying it, I really recommend that people actually get this. If we actually make a difference with diabetes in our community, it will be a game changer for us as far as life expectancy. Yeah. I want to thank you guys for actually uh listening to that. Um I hope that was helpful for you. And again, if you want to actually check out CaloCurb, the website is www.calocurb.com forward slash drv. That is www.cal o curb.com forward slash drv. I did get one question that was emailed in that I would like to uh go over quickly, and the person said, Dr. V, of course everyone's experience is different. Someone listening, for someone listening right now who's on the fence about trying another weight loss product, what would you tell them? Well, one thing that I would tell them is that, you know, there are a lot of options out here now, and I think that, you know, this is not the time to sit on the fence. Um if you're unsure about what to do, uh do some research, look at different things, speak with your physician about different things. It really does make a difference if you're trying to lose 30 or 40 pounds, or if you're trying if you're a diabetic and maybe you do need the prescription medications uh because you're dealing with uh really uncontrolled uh diabetes. So I would tell People, you know, this is not the time to sit on the fence. You have things that can actually help and actually make a difference. Um, this science is going to continue to evolve and go all in all different places and all different directions in the future. All right, to hear more about today's topic and other critical health issues, listen to my podcast, What the Health is Happening. That is a real question. What the health is happening? So if you feel like, oh my gosh, I'm not sure, you know, I didn't hear exactly uh what she said about this, that, or the other, it is on my podcast. So please download, subscribe, and comment. All right, I've got, I'm gonna take one more quick question. Um, Dr. V, I want to lose 20 pounds, but I don't want to be on weight loss medications forever. How can I keep the weight off after I stop? So this is also very important. A lot of the injectables, what we're seeing is when people get off the injectables, they are actually gaining the weight back. Um, and that's why I suggested that people actually uh look at transitioning to some sort of supplement and then slowly weaning themselves off of the supplements. Once you lose weight, the whole metabolic system in your body actually changes and how it operates. So once you get it off and keep it off, it is easier once it gets once you get it off to actually keep it off, but you cannot go from an injectable just to nothing. So a lot of people do have to be transitioned over to some sort of oral medication. All right. I want to thank you guys for joining me today. I'm really committed to answering all of your most pressing healthcare questions. Be sure to email me or send me an audio message at infotasdrv.us. That's info atask drv.us.
